in Oracle OAF, is the MDS page document definition stored in database or in the file system ?

MDS documents will load into the Database.

JDR_ATTRIBUTES
JDR_ATTRIBUTES_TRANS
JDR_COMPONENTS
JDR_PATHS

the documents will load via XML Importer , as detailed in XML Importer article.
